WHAT IS OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY:
In a nutshell,
Occupational Therapy can be defined as the assessment and treatment
of people, of all ages, suffering from physical injury or illness,
psychosocial dysfunction or developmental and learning disabilities.
For treatment we use specifically selected, graded, and purposeful
activities in order to help patients reach their maximum level of
functioning towards independence in all aspects of daily life. These
aspects include their independence in personal management, work,
education, free time and interpersonal relationships.
WHAT WE DO:
Our practice
undertakes predominantly medico legal functional capacity
assessments, to gather information regarding the client/plaintiff’s
pre-injury, current and possible future functional ability. A
comprehensive report is then compiled to assist the court,
employers, insurance companies and private individuals. This report
provides commentary and recommendations regarding professional
interventions, adaptations to transport and accommodation, any
assistance required, residual work capacity and loss of amenities of
life.
Information is obtained through an
interview, clinical observations, administering of various
assessment tasks and instruments, work visits, obtaining collateral
information and referring to other expert opinions.
